A group of youths in Konongo have sparked concern after they were seen rushing to collect spilt fuel from an overturned tanker on the Konongo highway.

In videos circulating on social media, several young men were spotted carrying containers and attempting to siphon fuel from the accident scene despite the obvious danger involved.

The tanker reportedly overturned on the highway, causing fuel to spill onto the road and nearby areas.

The footage has triggered concern among many Ghanaians, with several social media users warning about the deadly risks associated with fuel spills and tanker accidents.

Reacting to the growing practice of people rushing to tanker accident scenes to collect fuel, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe warned that anyone caught engaging in such acts could face serious legal consequences.

According to him, Ghanaian laws prescribe a minimum prison sentence of five years or more for individuals found siphoning fuel from overturned tanker trucks.

He stressed that the act is not only illegal but extremely dangerous due to the high risk of explosions and fire outbreaks.
