Asante Kotoko have confirmed the departure of their skipper Richard Boadu who joins Lybian club Al Ahly SC.
The club announced in a statement on Friday morning that they had reached an agreement with Al Ahly over the transfer of the former Medeama SC midfielder.
“Asante Kotoko can confirm that it has reached an agreement with Libyan side Al Ahly SC for the transfer of midfielder and Club Captain, Richard Boadu, on a permanent deal subject to medicals,” part of the statement read.
The 25-year-old joined Asante Kotoko ahead of the 2021/22 season and helped them end an eight-year trophy drought by winning the Ghana Premier League.
He was later named the captain of the Porcupine Warriors the following season and made significant contributions while playing 30 matches and found the back of the net twice in last season’s Ghana Premier League.
However, the season didn’t end as expected with the team settling for a fourth-place finish behind Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, and Bechem United.
“The Club wishes to thank Richard Boadu for his contribution to the club’s recent successes and professionalism during his time with us and wishes him the very best for the future,” concluded the club statement.
Asante Kotoko are looking to make new signings before the new season begins following the establishment of an Interim Management Committee which includes former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah and Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum.
