Asante Kotoko interim head coach Hamza Obeng has taken charge of his first training session following his appointment to lead the struggling Ghana Premier League side.
The former Accra Hearts of Oak assistant coach was named interim boss until the end of the 2025–2026 season after the departure of Prince Yaw Owusu. Owusu stepped down after a poor run of results, including a heavy 4-0 defeat to Medeama SC and a 2-1 loss against FC Samartex 1996.
In a statement confirming his resignation, Owusu indicated the decision was taken in the best interest of the club. He had previously served as assistant to Abdul Karim Zito before assuming interim duties, but was unable to reverse the team’s declining form.
Kotoko have dropped from fourth to sixth place following consecutive defeats, intensifying pressure on the technical team. Obeng now faces the immediate challenge of revitalizing the squad ahead of their upcoming clash with Hohoe United on Sunday, April 26.
His first training session focused on rebuilding confidence and improving organization as the team looks to salvage its season.
