Asante Kotoko interim coach Abdul Gazale criticised his player’s lacklustre performance in their 2-0 defeat to Great Olympics in the Ghana Premier League on Thursday.
Gazale described the performance as awful and expressed doubt about their chances of defending their title if they continue playing like they did at the WAFA Park in Sogakope.
He said, “Looking at the awful performance and attitude of the players, I wouldn’t be fair to myself and the fans by promising them the league title. Because anytime we plan on securing points from our opponents at their home venue, we end up giving away the points. We can’t continue to play like this and expect to finish on top of the league table.”
The defeat means Kotoko failed to climb back to the top and close the gap on league leaders Aduana Stars. With six games to end the season, Kotoko are eight points behind Aduana.
Kotoko will have a chance to redeem themselves when they welcome Tamale City to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
