The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a major transformer upgrade at the Kumasi Ridge Substation as part of efforts to improve power supply and enhance service reliability in the area.
ECG stated that the project forms part of the government’s Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme, which aims to strengthen electricity infrastructure and reduce pressure on the distribution network.
The exercise is scheduled to run from Wednesday, May 6, to Saturday, May 9, 2026.
According to ECG, the upgrade follows similar completed projects at Adenta Primary Substation, Nmai Dzorm Primary Substation, Lashibi Primary Substation, and Teshie-Nungua Primary Substation.
To enable engineers to work safely, customers in the Kumasi Ridge catchment area will experience scheduled power interruptions over the four-day period.
Each affected group is expected to face outages lasting approximately six hours, depending on the work schedule.
While acknowledging the inconvenience the temporary outages may cause, ECG emphasised that the exercise is necessary to deliver long-term improvements in electricity supply. The company urged the public to monitor its official channels for the detailed outage schedules.
