Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku was greeted with enthusiasm as he arrived at the GFA Secretariat on Friday to officially file his nomination forms, marking his intent to seek re-election for a second term.

The occasion was marked by jubilation among his supporters who turned out to show their unwavering endorsement, mirroring the strong backing he has received in the run-up to the upcoming presidential election.

Okraku’s re-election campaign has received resounding backing from all ten Regional Football Associations, a significant endorsement that was publicly affirmed on Monday. The united support from the regions solidifies Okraku’s position as a frontrunner in the election, scheduled for September 27 in Tamale.

Addressing the gathered supporters and press after filing his nomination, Okraku expressed his commitment to the future of Ghanaian football, stating, “Ghana football has suffered, Ghana football has struggled but is currently on the rise and I can assure you that, Ghana football is currently in safe hands, and I am that person.”

He reiterated his openness to collaboration and innovation, emphasizing, “Most administrators trust in my vision and we need to work together to achieve that higher height. My hands are opened to other minds to make our football better.”

Okraku’s initial victory in the 2019 election saw him triumph over notable competitors, including former GFA Vice President George Afriyie, in a closely contested race that included four other aspirants.

This year, Afriyie is positioned as a prominent contender, aiming to challenge Okraku’s bid for a second term.
