Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese has revealed his intention to pursue legal action against the Ghana Police, seeking $1 million in damages for his arrest and subsequent conviction for marijuana possession.

He argues that his arrest, in contrast to the leniency shown to foreigners who violated the same laws, was discriminatory.

In an interview on Hitz FM, Kwaw Kese emphasized the lack of concrete evidence against him and criticized the double standard in law enforcement, citing instances where foreigners openly flouted the law without consequence.

Kwaw Kese highlighted the negative impact of the incident on his reputation and career, expressing a desire for compensation for the ordeal and damage to his name.

In 2015, Kwaw Kese was convicted of narcotic offenses and sentenced to one day’s imprisonment along with a fine of GHȼ1,200.

Five years later, he criticized the Ghana Police for failing to take action against Jamaican musician Popcaan, who was seen publicly smoking what appeared to be marijuana during the Year of Return in 2020.

Expressing outrage over the apparent disparity in treatment between locals and foreigners, Kwaw Kese took to social media to condemn the perceived injustice and criticized the integrity of the Ghana Police.
