Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has admitted that it was an emotional and difficult moment for him after guiding Uganda to victory over Ghana in the playoff that secured qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Kingston, who currently serves in Uganda’s youth football setup, finally opened up about the experience of leading a team that defeated his home country in such a crucial encounter. The former Black Stars winger described the situation as a challenging one, given his strong ties to Ghana and his desire to see the nation succeed.
Despite his emotions, Kingston emphasized that his responsibility was to the Ugandan team and their ambitions of reaching the global tournament. Uganda emerged victorious in the playoff, booking their place at the U-17 World Cup at Ghana’s expense.
The result marked a significant achievement for Ugandan football, while also ending Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the tournament, making the occasion particularly bittersweet for the former Black Stars star.
