Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi finished the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the tournament’s leading goalkeeper for goals prevented, underlining his impressive performances despite Ghana’s early exit.
The St. Gallen shot-stopper recorded a tournament-best 2.35 goals prevented, finishing ahead of every other goalkeeper at the competition.
Ati-Zigi featured for a total of 135 minutes during Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign. He played the opening 45 minutes of the Black Stars’ 1-0 victory over Panama before returning to play the full 90 minutes in the Round of 32 defeat to Colombia.
Despite his limited minutes, the 29-year-old produced several outstanding saves to deny opposition attackers and posted the highest goals-prevented figure among all goalkeepers at the tournament.
His displays were a bright spot for Ghana, who reached the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since 2010 before suffering a narrow elimination against Colombia.
The statistic further highlights Ati-Zigi’s importance to the Black Stars as Ghana begin preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this year.
