Leeds United have secured the long-term future of captain Ethan Ampadu after the midfielder signed a new four-year contract with the club.
The announcement was unusually made by Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe, who revealed the news during an interview with Sky Sports News. Marathe described Ampadu’s contract extension as a key part of the club’s plans moving forward.
According to the chairman, retaining the 25-year-old was a priority due to his leadership qualities both on and off the pitch. He also stressed the importance of keeping the core of the squad together as Leeds continue to build on their recent progress.
Ampadu joined Leeds from Chelsea FC in July 2023 and has since become a central figure at Elland Road. The Wales international played a crucial role in the club’s promotion-winning campaign before helping Leeds secure Premier League survival.
The midfielder featured in 35 of the club’s 38 league matches last season, underlining his importance to the team as both captain and leader.
