A student of the University of Ghana has been apprehended after using fake mobile payment alerts to purchase food from a vendor.

According to the food vendor, the suspect had been engaging in the fraudulent act since last year by repeatedly presenting fake payment notifications as proof of purchase.

The vendor explained that although she had long suspected the student’s actions, she only decided to act recently by playing along in order to catch him in the act.

The footage shows the student being physically restrained as tensions escalated at the scene.

The incident has sparked conversations about the increasing misuse of mobile payment systems, particularly among small business operators who rely heavily on instant transaction confirmations.
