The Minister for Local Government, Ahmed Ibrahim, has pledged renewed government support for the welfare of chiefs and the effective functioning of the regional houses of chiefs, as part of efforts to strengthen traditional governance.

Speaking during a familiarisation visit to the Bono East Regional House of Chiefs in Sunyani, Mr Ibrahim acknowledged that limited funding for chieftaincy dispute resolution continues to delay justice, stressing the need for sustained investment and harmony among traditional leaders.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the 24-hour model market initiative, describing it as a key driver of local economic growth.

The Minister appealed to traditional authorities to support the programme by releasing suitable land to enable the timely construction of the markets and ensure their long-term success.
