Romelu Lukaku has scored four goals in his last five Champions League appearances in the last-16 stage

Inter Milan secured a crucial victory in their Champions League last-16 tie against Porto, with substitute Romelu Lukaku scoring the only goal of the game.

The Belgian striker found the back of the net in the 86th minute, converting the rebound after his initial effort had hit the post at the San Siro stadium.

Earlier in the match, Porto had a great opportunity to take the lead, but Inter’s goalkeeper Andre Onana made two excellent saves to deny Zaidu Sanusi and Mehdi Taremi.

The game changed in the 78th minute when Otavio received his second yellow card and was subsequently sent off, leaving the visitors with 10 men for the remainder of the match.

Inter made the most of their numerical advantage and managed to break the deadlock just eight minutes after Otavio’s dismissal, with Lukaku scoring the all-important goal.

The result gives the Italian side the upper hand going into the second leg, which will take place at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao on Tuesday, 14 March.
