Mahama meets Kenya’s President Ruto, pledges to deepen relations

President-elect John Dramani Mahama recently met with Kenyan President William Ruto to express his gratitude for Ruto’s ongoing support and to formally invite him to his inauguration on January 7, 2025.

John Mahama shared highlights of their discussions on Facebook on December 29, 2024, which focused on regional integration, continental security, and boosting trade through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He emphasised his dedication to enhancing the relationship between Ghana and Kenya, while President Ruto assured him of Kenya’s willingness to strengthen bilateral ties. They identified several key areas for collaboration, including trade, tourism, and energy.

Additionally, President Ruto thanked President-elect John Mahama for his backing of Raila Odinga’s bid for the chairperson position at the African Union Commission (AUC) and confirmed his attendance at Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony.

This meeting highlights the significance of regional cooperation in fostering economic growth and development across Africa. As Mahama gets ready to assume office, his focus on building connections with neighboring nations is a positive move toward a more integrated and prosperous continent.
