Former Black Stars forward Majeed Waris believes Ghana’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup cannot be blamed solely on the players, insisting leadership within the national team setup is equally important.

Reflecting on Ghana’s World Cup experience, Waris praised head coach Carlos Queiroz, who has been in charge of the Black Stars for just four months, for making what he described as a powerful statement about the team’s situation.

According to the former international, Ghana’s struggles extend beyond the players on the pitch and are closely linked to those responsible for leading and managing the national team.

“It’s not about the players; it’s about who is in charge,” Waris said, suggesting that the country’s football challenges require broader structural solutions rather than criticism of individual players.

His comments come after Ghana’s early exit from the World Cup and add to the growing debate over the future direction of the Black Stars.

Waris’ remarks are expected to fuel further discussions on the leadership, management and long-term development of Ghana football following the team’s disappointing tournament campaign.
