The High Commission of Malaysia in Accra, in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) Malaysia and Hotel, Catering, and Tourism Training Institute (HOTCATT), successfully organized the “Tastes of Malaysia” Promotion Event at the HOTCATT premises on 20 May 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote the growth of the halal industry in Ghana.

The event showcased a variety of authentic Malaysian halal food products and culinary specialties, including samosa, popia (spring rolls), curry puffs, roti canai, prata, and Malaysian curry gravy. A live cooking demonstration was conducted by Mr. Raja Afi Amierul Aiman, Third Secretary of the High Commission of Malaysia, who introduced participants to the preparation methods and cultural significance of Malaysian cuisine.

The food products featured during the event were supplied by FAMA Malaysia, one of Malaysia’s leading agencies responsible for promoting Malaysian agricultural and food products globally. All products carried Malaysia’s internationally recognized halal certification logo, reinforcing Malaysia’s commitment to maintaining high halal standards and quality assurance.

Speaking during the event, representatives from the High Commission highlighted that the initiative forms part of Malaysia’s broader commitment to support the development of a halal ecosystem in Ghana through knowledge-sharing, culinary exchange, and institutional collaboration.

The High Commission emphasized that HOTCATT serves as a strategic partner in this initiative due to its important role as a foundation institution for hospitality, catering, tourism, and culinary training in Ghana. Through this collaboration, students, chefs, tourism stakeholders, and hospitality professionals are exposed to international halal standards and Malaysian food products, opening opportunities for future trade and industry cooperation.

The initiative also aligns with efforts to strengthen collaboration with Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts in positioning Ghana as an emerging participant in the global halal economy. Malaysia, widely recognized as a global leader in halal certification and halal industry development, continues to share its expertise and experience with international partners seeking to expand into the halal market.

According to global industry estimates, the halal industry is currently valued at approximately USD 3 trillion, covering sectors such as food and beverages, tourism, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, logistics, and Islamic finance. Through stronger partnerships between Malaysia and Ghana, both countries stand to benefit from increasing trade opportunities and international market access.

FAMA Malaysia’s participation in the program further demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to promoting high-quality halal food products internationally while creating new market opportunities for Malaysian exporters in Africa. At the same time, the collaboration aims to support Ghanaian halal products and businesses in accessing wider global markets through adherence to internationally recognized halal standards.

The “Tastes of Malaysia” Promotion Event concluded with a tasting session attended by invited guests, culinary students, hospitality professionals, and tourism stakeholders, who expressed appreciation for the opportunity to experience authentic Malaysian halal cuisine and learn more about the global halal industry.

The High Commission of Malaysia expressed its appreciation to HOTCATT and all stakeholders involved and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering future collaborations in tourism, hospitality, culinary arts, trade promotion, and halal industry development between Malaysia and Ghana.
