The Ministry of Trade and Industry is ready to lay before Parliament, a Legislative Instrument, LI, seeking to restrict the importation of selected products into the country.
Speaking to the media in Parliament on the L.I., the Minister of Trade and Industry, K.T. Hammond said the items in question numbering more than 20, include rice, tripe, popularly called “yemuadie”, and diapers.
He explained that the L.I. does not mean Government will fully ban the importation of these items, but will rather enable the government to restrict their importation in order to enhance local production.
