The Minority in Parliament has rescheduled its second protest demanding the removal of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison, and his two deputies. Initially set for July 30, the demonstration has been moved to August 13.
In a letter to the police on Tuesday, the Minority explained that the change was necessary due to the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) 2024 campaign launch in Tamale on July 27. The Minority noted that many members would attend the campaign launch, leaving insufficient time to prepare for the protest.
“Following our discussion and conclusion of the date with your office, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) announced the 27th of July 2024 as the date of the launch of our national campaign in Tamale,” the letter stated. “Given that this date is so close to our planned demonstration in Accra, the 27th July date has become inconvenient.”
The Minority requested the protest be rescheduled under sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Public Order Act 1994 (Act 491). The new demonstration date is Tuesday, August 13, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the route remaining unchanged.
