Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu is expected to seal a move to the French Ligue 1 soon as AS Monaco agree to a fee with Southampton to sign the centre-back.
On Monday, the defender is scheduled to undergo a medical examination with the Ligue 1 team. Both clubs are believed to have finalised a transfer fee of approximately £15 million.
Salisu played a vital role for the Saints after joining in 2020 from Real Valladolid in Spain. He appeared in 80 matches and was a key player in the squad. However, towards the end of last season, he was unfortunately sidelined due to injuries, which proved to be a significant setback for Southampton, leading to their relegation.
The 24-year-old’s current deal with the English side will expire next summer and talks to extend have been unsuccessful prompting Monaco to make the move.
Southampton did not include the former Real Valladolid centre-back in their pre-season friendlies against AZ Alkmaar or Bournemouth indicating that he may be getting closer to leaving the team.
A few weeks ago, Salisu was on the radar of Fulham but the Cottagers opted for Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey.
