A mobile money (MoMo) vendor in Awutu Bereku in the Central region identified as one Kwabena Gideon has committed suicide after misusing his bosses’ funds.
Kwabena Gideon is said to have blown Ghc 16,000 belonging to his boss within the past few weeks.
It’s not clear how the money was spent, Starrfmonline claims he suffered ‘losses’ from the MoMo business whilst other sources claim he squandered the money in some way, possibly on sports betting or other vices.
Either way, his boss is said to have filed an official complaint at the Awutu Bereku Police station against Kwabena Gideon for stealing his GHC16,000.
The complaint also revealed the employee had deleted all his social media pictures, turned off his mobile phone, and another phone used for MOMO transactions.
Unable to handle the charges coming against him and with no way of recouping the money, Gideon decided to commit suicide.
He’s reported to have drank poison, dying two hours.
He leaves behind a wife and a one-year-old child.
Kwabena Gideon, a 23-year-old married mobile money vendor from Awutu Bereku in the Central region, has tragically ended his life, allegedly due to a 16,000 Ghana cedis debt he owed his employer.
