The giant Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) has pledged to support the celebration of festivals in the country. MTN’s Senior General Manager of Trade in charge of the South and West of Ghana, Prince Owusu-Nyarko, said the move was to give back to the society in which MTN operates, mark the 60th birthday of the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Council, Osabarima Kwesi Atta, and celebrate the silver jubilee of his enstoolment as the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Council.
Mr. Owusu-Nyarko disclosed that besides the cash donation of 250 thousand Ghana cedis, the management of the MTN also deemed it expedient to add a hamper of assorted expensive drinks.
The donation was witnessed by a multitude of people who gathered at the palace during the Oguaa Fetu Festival purification rite, a day on which a giant bull is paraded through the principal streets of Cape Coast before it is finally slaughtered for sacrificed at the shrine of the arch divinity of the 77 deities of the Oguaa Traditional area, Nana Paprata, to cleanse the entire traditional area of sins that might have been committed either consciously or unconsciously.
The day’s event, which precedes the main Fetu Festival saw millions of Ghanaians and foreigners partaking in the “Orange Friday” Street carnival.
This year’s Fetu Festival is seen as unique in the sense that it was graced by His Royal Majesty, the king of the Kumasi Traditional Council, Otumfu Osei Tutu, and the leadership of all political parties in the country.
