Ghanaian rapper Agbeko has opened up about how he became addicted to drugs, revealing that it all started through a romantic relationship years ago.

In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz on Tuesday October 28, the rapper recounted how a woman he met after a performance on Oxford Street introduced him to drug use.

According to Agbeko, he met the lady during an MTN Areeba show, and the two later became lovers. However, their relationship took a dark turn when she introduced him to drugs.

“It was through a female friend I met performing at a show on Oxford Street — the MTN Areeba show. After the show, I met a female friend… she became my girlfriend, and she introduced me to it,” he said.

Agbeko revealed that his girlfriend was a Ghanaian based in the UK, who had been sent back home by her father in an attempt to help her quit drugs. However, the situation worsened during her stay in Ghana.

“She wasn’t from here; she was living in the UK. Because of drugs, her father brought her down to change, but it became worse,” he recalled. “Excuse me to say, the junkie life here be weak and dirty, so she was sent back.”

Although the relationship ended, Agbeko admitted he continued using drugs afterward, saying he and the lady eventually lost contact.

When asked by Andy Dosty whether drugs were expensive to purchase, Agbeko responded, “Somewhat, yes somewhat.”

The rapper’s candid revelation adds to the growing conversation about substance abuse among young entertainers, and how easily one can fall into addiction through peer or emotional influence.
