Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has credited his pace for the beautiful goal he scored against the USA in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

In a Round of 16 match held at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Kevin-Prince Boateng opened the scoring for Ghana within the first five minutes of the game, giving them a 1-0 lead at halftime.

However, in the second half, USA equalized with a penalty converted by Landon Donovan, resulting in a 1-1 draw at full time.

During extra time, Asamoah Gyan scored a spectacular goal in the 94th minute, securing a victory for the Black Stars. This historic win propelled Ghana to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in their history.

“I used my pace to score my goal against the USA. It was a chance and I managed to score, facing the post during extra time,” Gyan told Pure FM.

“But my best goal for Ghana is against England. It wasn’t a chance. My back was facing the goal post and I used my skill to score.”

In their quarterfinal final clash against Uruguay, Ghana lost 4-2 on penalty shootouts.
