Nana Addo Boaman, the Chief of Nahinso, was arrested by officials of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly for undertaking road works without official permission, sparking controversy over community flooding issues.
The Chief, who was granted bail over the weekend following his arrest at the Asokwa District Command, defended his actions, citing persistent road deterioration and flooding despite appeals to authorities.
Residents and motorists in Nahinso, located on the border of Bosomtwi District and Oforikrom Municipality, have long lamented the poor road conditions. The Chief took matters into his own hands to address the situation, filling pits and repairing roads to alleviate flooding and improve accessibility.
However, Asokwa Municipal Assembly officials intervened, halting his efforts and asserting that proper procedures were not followed. The Assembly emphasized that unauthorized road works could exacerbate existing issues.
Despite the legal action, Nana Boaman remains resolute in his commitment to improving local infrastructure. He vows to continue efforts to repair the roads and mitigate community challenges.
The incident underscores ongoing tensions between community initiatives and municipal regulations concerning infrastructure maintenance and development in Ghanaian municipalities.
