The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended the Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman, Stephen Ofosu Agyare, from office for five months following a petition filed by the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a letter signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey on July 22, 2026, after the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) considered the MP’s petition and recommendations from the Central Regional Council of Elders contained in a letter referenced COC/CR/001 dated July 20, 2026.
According to the NDC, the FEC, at its meeting on July 21, 2026, found sufficient grounds to invoke Articles 48(4) and 48(6) of the party’s Constitution to suspend the chairman.
The matter has since been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and any additional action deemed appropriate.
The party has directed Mr Ofosu Agyare not to perform any official duties or exercise authority associated with the office of constituency chairman during the suspension period.
The NDC also attached copies of the petition and the Central Regional Council of Elders’ report to the suspension letter and urged the chairman to treat the directive with seriousness as the disciplinary process continues.
