The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), has launched a National Long-Term Development Perspective Framework document, Vision 2057, aimed at achieving upper middle-income country status in Accra.
The framework will serve as the blueprint that will guide the nation’s developmental drive while providing medium-term development strategies to governments.
The Chairman of the NDPC, Professor George Gyan Baffour, noted that, with the Vision 2057 long-term framework, Ghana has taken the bold step towards embracing the future, guided by the lessons learnt from past experiences and global commitments to attaining sustainable development goals.
He added that the long-term development framework will help the country achieve its collective aspirations and provide the foundation upon which future medium plans will be developed.
The 2057 long-term vision went through several processes, which included the review of Ghana at 100 Vision.
The long-term framework expresses where key developmental infrastructure must be positioned to attract maximum benefits.
A strategic direction on how the country can respond to any emergencies in areas such as health and agriculture.
The framework is designed to give governments the freedom to operate and implement policies and also accept feedback from the citizenry.
It is focused on six key areas. They are, Social Dimension, Natural and Built Environment, Governance, Emergency Preparedness and Resilience, and the Economy.
The Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Professor George Gyan Baffour, emphasised that rigid plans, prescribing programs and actions to governments will not survive in the current dispensation, hence the introduction of Vision 2057, which is more flexible and will help governments and future generations steer their visions to achieve a prosperous nation.
The Director General of the NDPC, Dr. Kodjo Mensah-Abrampa, said it is designed to take care of all individuals and ensure equal distribution of wealth across all sectors of the economy.
The Paramount Chief of Asante Asokore, Susubiribi Krobea Asante, who launched the document, underscored the relevance of collaboration between the government and the private sector to achieve the objectives of the vision.
