Mr. Stephen Blewett, the new CEO of MTN Ghana, has expressed his commitment to building on the achievements of his predecessor and advancing the company’s growth.

In a courtesy call on the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at the Ghana International Press Center on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, he emphasized MTN’s strategic shift from being solely a network provider to becoming a platform-based business.

Mr. Blewett highlighted that this transition involves engaging with innovators, particularly young people, to develop and integrate new products onto MTN’s network and systems.

“I really look forward to taking MTN to the next level, growing our business to be more of a digital company, and partnering with people like yourselves to achieve this,” he stated.

He acknowledged the crucial role of the media in a country’s growth, noting that it disseminates information across various channels.

Mr. Blewett emphasized MTN’s responsibility to ensure that every Ghanaian has access to information, especially as media consumption increasingly shifts to digital platforms.

“People use digital, and we’re in that space. So, partnering with you in the digital space aligns perfectly with my mandate—bringing information to more and more people,” he explained.

Addressing the issue of fake news, Mr. Blewett identified it as the biggest challenge in the media landscape. He underscored the responsibility to combat misinformation and highlighted the role MTN can play in calling out and addressing false information.

As MTN Ghana embarks on this new phase under Mr. Blewett’s leadership, the focus will be on fostering innovation, enhancing digital services, and strengthening collaborations with the media to ensure the widespread dissemination of accurate information.
