Nigerian man arrested for stealing employer’s car to fund trip to Ghana

The Lagos State Command has a man who stole his employer’s and attempted selling to finance his ‘s relocation to .

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced the on Tuesday, January 23.

According to Hundeyin, the State Criminal Department received information on January 16 regarding a Toyota Hilux vehicle suspected to be stolen.

Upon receiving the information, detectives commenced investigation which led them to Ilukogun village, situated on the border between Lagos State and Ogun where the stolen vehicle was recovered.

The Police say the vehicle was retrieved from a local resident identified as Arthur Benjamin in the Ilukogun village. Benjamin admitted to the offence after several questioning and said he intended to sell the car and use the proceeds to facilitate his family’s relocation to Ghana.

“The suspect confessed to stealing the vehicle with the motive of selling it to raise funds for relocating to Ghana with his family,” stated SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed that investigation is still ongoing as authorities work to gather more details about the incident. Official charges are yet to be brought against the culprit.

Benjamin had intended to relocate with his family to Ghana for greener pastures. His motive highlights the growing trend of Nigerians migrating to Ghana for greener pastures amid their involvement in illicit crime activities.

It also underscores the worse economic situation in and the African region causing to nearby countries.
