North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has expanded his educational support initiative by granting scholarships to an additional 100 tertiary students in his constituency, bringing the total number of beneficiaries under his scheme this year to 400.

The Foreign Affairs Minister announced the decision during Easter community engagements in Volo and Podoe, emphasizing his commitment to prioritizing constituents’ welfare.

In a social media post detailing the initiative, Ablakwa stated, “Yesterday I offered 100 extra tertiary scholarships to my beloved constituents in Volo and Podoe. This brings the total scholarships offered this year to 400.” He linked the gesture to the spirit of Easter, noting, “Easter teaches us to live and die for others; it must never be all about self.”

The expanded scholarship program underscores Ablakwa’s long-standing focus on education as a tool for community development. Since its inception, the scheme has covered tuition and related academic expenses for students pursuing higher education across Ghana. The latest beneficiaries join a growing cohort of recipients from North Tongu, a region where access to tertiary education remains challenging for many families due to financial constraints.

Ablakwa’s announcement coincided with his participation in local Easter festivals, where he engaged with constituents and reiterated his advocacy for equitable educational opportunities. The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to address barriers to higher education, particularly in underserved communities. Similar scholarship programs by lawmakers have gained traction in recent years, though Ablakwa’s remains among the most extensive in scale and reach.

Analysts note that such investments in education could have long-term socioeconomic impacts, including improved literacy rates and workforce readiness. Ablakwa, who has consistently championed grassroots development projects, has previously funded infrastructure upgrades in local schools and partnered with organizations to provide learning materials. His latest move reinforces the role of parliamentary representatives in bridging gaps in public service delivery, particularly in regions facing systemic disparities.
