Victor Owusu, secretary to the Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Council of Elders, has expressed strong confidence in the enduring effects of a recent peace agreement brokered in the Offinso North constituency.

The Council of Elders announced on Thursday, August 22, that it had successfully mediated a resolution between conflicting factions within the constituency.

The agreement, a result of a meeting on Wednesday, August 21, was a collective effort that included key figures such as NPP parliamentary candidate Fred Kyei Asamoah and constituency chairman Johnson Modma. Owusu, speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday, August 23, emphasized the importance of the council’s inclusive approach, which allowed all parties to express their grievances and contributed to the reconciliation process, making everyone feel part of the solution.

“I believe this resolution will be permanent because we provided a platform for all parties to voice their concerns,” Owusu said.

“The reconciliation was achieved because we created an environment where grievances could be aired and addressed.”

Owusu underscored the critical need for unity within the constituency, emphasizing that any internal discord could jeopardize the party’s prospects in the upcoming general election. His words carried a sense of urgency, making the audience realize the immediate need for unity.

“Offinso North is a marginal seat for us; there is a strong NDC presence there, and we have struggled to retain the seat in past elections. Any sign of disunity would be detrimental,” he cautioned, underlining the potential negative impact of disunity on the party’s prospects, making the audience feel the gravity of the situation.

He further emphasized the importance of unity in the party’s efforts towards the December 7, 2024 elections, stressing that it is a key factor in their strategy and success.

“That’s why we invested considerable effort to ensure unity, resolve grievances, and communicate to all stakeholders that unity is essential for our success in the presidential and parliamentary races,” Owusu added.
