Former Okaikoi North MP Issah Fuseini has stated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will fully contest the Electoral Commission’s upcoming parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North Constituency.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on July 5, Fuseini dismissed speculation of a boycott, declaring: “We’ll not boycott this election.” His comments directly countered suggestions the party might withdraw from the process.

This assurance comes against the backdrop of the NPP’s public rejection of the EC’s rerun decision days earlier. Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed had expressed disappointment, asserting no consensus was reached during stakeholder consultations. In a Citi FM Eyewitness News interview, Mohammed stated: “Our representatives were at the meeting… there was no such agreement with the EC,” citing the EC’s own release acknowledging party disagreements.

The party maintains its objection to the rerun’s validity across 19 polling stations while committing to participate. Fuseini framed the decision to contest as consistent with the NPP’s character, rejecting the National Democratic Congress’ speculation about a potential boycott.
