Renowned Ghanaian actor and known NPP sympathiser, Kwaku Manu, has raised concerns about the treatment of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Speaking in an interview, Kwaku Manu claimed that now that Nana Addo is no longer in office, the NPP will likely prevent Dr. Bawumia from running for president again.
According to Manu, Nana Addo used his influence as president to elevate Dr. Bawumia within the party. However, with Nana Addo out of power, he believes the party’s influential members will assert their dominance to sideline Bawumia.
He stated, “As Nana Addo has left the NPP, the party won’t allow Dr. Bawumia to stand for president again. They feel like Nana Addo used his power as president to bring Dr. Bawumia into prominence. Now that he is no longer in power, they will use their money and influence to show that the party belongs to them.”
Manu also reflected on the shifting dynamics within the party, suggesting that Nana Addo no longer commands the respect he once had during his presidency. “Now even the NPP members, when they meet Nana Addo and he misbehaves, they will tell him, ‘When you’re on the seat, that’s when you have power. Since you’re no longer on the seat, nobody is scared of you.’
Manu also reflected on how Nana Addo’s handling of certain issues, particularly with traditional leaders, created discontent. He criticised the former president, suggesting that his dealings with chiefs and kings were inappropriate and contributed to his diminishing influence within the party.
