The Public Relations Officer of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Pearl Adusu Sateckla, has admitted that the reduction in the Authority’s “Stay Alive” campaign has contributed to the recent rise in road crashes.

According to her, accident rates were lower when the Authority engaged in intensive public campaigns.

“We were on the media, we were going for outreaches, everyone was talking about the Stay Alive campaign. It was a vigorous campaign, but we see a rise now because we relaxed a little in our campaign enforcement,” she said.

Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show on September 8, 2025, Madam Sateckla explained that financial constraints have limited the campaign, making it more ad hoc.

She added that the gap created by the reduced campaign has led to increased indiscipline among road users, with many driving recklessly, knowing that there are fewer security or speed checks.

Madam Sateckla further advocated for technological enforcement, stressing that Ghana has gone beyond the manual system.

“We want to secure a technology-based way of enforcement. We’ve gone past the manual, we need to upgrade,” she said.

She insisted that even with good roads and adequate infrastructure, reckless driving would remain the leading cause of road crashes. While she acknowledged three major causes of accidents, poor roads, inadequate infrastructure, and reckless driving, she emphasised that human attitude and recklessness were the primary factors.
