Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, renowned biomedical engineer and celebrated quiz mistress of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has achieved another historic milestone by becoming the first Ghanaian to be inducted as an International Fellow of the prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng).

Her induction, announced by the Academy, recognises her outstanding contributions to engineering education, innovation, and leadership across Africa. The honour places her among a distinguished group of global engineering professionals who are advancing solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Professor Kaufmann, who serves as the Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana, has been instrumental in shaping engineering education, championing STEM advancement, and mentoring the next generation of African innovators. Her work in biomedical engineering continues to impact research, policy, and capacity-building efforts within Ghana and beyond.

The Royal Academy of Engineering’s International Fellowships celebrate engineers who have made exceptional contributions to their fields and demonstrated global influence. Professor Kaufmann’s induction not only highlights her personal accomplishments but also marks a significant moment for Ghana’s engineering fraternity.
