Kurt Okraku

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has declared his support for Kurt Okraku, the current president of the association ahead of the upcoming GFA Elective Congress.

Following his election into office in 2019, Okraku will see his tenure end in October and is seeking re-election in the next elections scheduled for September 27.

The former Ghana FA Cup chairman is set to battle it out with familiar rival George Afriyie who affirmed his intention to contest the office by submitting his nomination forms last week.

Nyaho-Tamakloe who served as president of the GFA between 2004 and 2005 believes, Okraku stands tall in the contest despite recent criticisms from many football stakeholders.

According to him, the FA boss has worked diligently to stabilise Ghana football which was in shambles following the Number 12 Anas exposé by Tiger Eye PI in 2018.

”I want to endorse Kurt Okraku for the upcoming FA elections and my reasons are very simple. We came out of very turbulent waters not long ago. The FA was in the hands of a group appointed by FIFA and Kurt has been able to stabilise things,” he told Graphic Sports.

”He (Okraku) has been able to come out with some projects and I believe strongly that if he is given the opportunity, he will take the FA far.”

”This time round it’s only two terms unlike previously where one could contest as many as he wants. It’s better we give him the opportunity than go in for somebody who has not learnt the ropes properly”, he said.

In addition, he instructed those asking for the GFA president’s dismissal to explore legal channels and put an end to the false accusations of operating a family and friends FA and a lack of accountability.

”All those making that allegation know what to do. They have a committee responsible for such things so all that they have to do is to take it to that committee”, he stated.

The much-anticipated Elective Congress will come off at the Redaach Memorial Hotel in Tamale.
