Nations FC have officially unveiled Johnson Smith as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The experienced Ghanaian tactician returns to the Abrankese-based club for a second spell, having previously served as an assistant coach. This time, he takes charge of the first team following the departure of Stephen Frimpong Manso.
Smith assumes the role at a crucial period for the FA Cup holders, who will compete in the Access Bank Division One League after their relegation from the Ghana Premier League while also preparing for their maiden CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Confirming the appointment, Nations FC welcomed the coach back in a statement on social media, describing him as a familiar figure with a deep understanding of the club’s vision and ambitions.
“Welcome Back Home, Coach Johnson Smith. Nations FC is delighted to welcome Johnson Smith back to the club as First Team Coach.
“Johnson Smith is a familiar face with a strong understanding of what this club stands for. He returns with the experience and passion to help drive the first team forward.”
The club also revealed that Smith will oversee the rebuilding of its youth development structure in addition to managing the senior team, with the aim of creating a stronger pathway for future talents.
“Alongside his role with the senior squad, he has also been entrusted with rebuilding our youth development system as we strengthen the pathway for the next generation of Nations FC players.
“Welcome home, Coach. We wish you every success in this new chapter.”
Smith brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked with clubs including Asante Kotoko, Karela United and Basake Holy Stars.
He also serves as an assistant coach of Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites, and will now be tasked with leading Nations FC back to the Premier League while making a strong impression in their first-ever CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
