The Okaikwei North Educational Directorate, in collaboration with Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Constituency innthr Greater Accra Region, Patrick Yaw Boamah, recently organized the Teachers Prize awards to recognize hardworking educators.
Twenty awards, comprising TV sets, deep freezers, and cash prizes, were presented in categories such as Best Kindergarten Teacher, Best Teacher in ICT and Mathematics, and Best Private Basic School.
Guest speaker Bernice Ofori, Director of Education, Tema Metro, emphasized the importance of motivated teachers in achieving meaningful educational transitions.
Speaking further, Mrs Ofori who is also the President of Conference of Directors of Education (CODE) Ghana noted “Today, we gather to celebrate the remarkable work of our teachers and workers in the Okaikwei Central Constituency. Our Honorable Member of Parliament has graciously sponsored this award, and I extend our heartfelt appreciation”
Accordingly, she stated; The theme, “A Motivated Teacher, the Key to Meaningful Transformation in Education,” resonates deeply. Teachers are architects of the future, igniting curiosity and fostering a love for learning. Their motivation and passion drive real change.
But what motivates a teacher? While financial rewards are essential, motivation goes beyond monetary compensation. Teachers need support, empowerment, and opportunities to innovate and grow.
Ghana has made strides in education, with policies like the Education Strategic Plan (2018-2030) and National Teacher Standards (2017). These initiatives emphasize teacher development, motivation, and continuous professional growth.
“As educators, we must commit to lifelong learning, updating our skills, and embracing new methodologies. The Professional Development Allowance is a valuable tool; let’s utilize it”, Mrs Ofori emphasized.
Motivation is a catalyst for change. Recognizing and rewarding teachers is crucial. As Maya Angelou said, “People will forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”
Today’s event celebrates excellence, valuing and respecting our teachers’ hard work. Confucius’ words inspire us: “The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.” Let today be a reminder that motivated teachers are agents of change.
To our awardees, thank you for your tireless efforts. To every teacher and worker, remember that you are the key to unlocking the future. Let’s continue to inspire, innovate, and transform.
Patrick Boamah praised teachers for their efforts, citing the constituency’s 85% pass mark. He expressed aspirations for 100% in 2024 and assured his commitment to supporting teachers’ motivation and happiness.
“The award scheme aims to enhance teacher morale and student care, solidifying the constituency’s dedication to quality education”, Mr Boamah added.
