Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Okyenhene, has emphasised the urgent need for developing Ghana’s rural communities, highlighting the crucial role that local farmers and businesses play in the country’s progress.
During a courtesy call by the vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Okyenhene appealed to the government to extend development projects to rural areas.
He praised the contribution of the running mate that led to the successful implementation of the Free Senior High School policy which has achieved international recognition.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh explained that he could not have entered Okyeman to deliver Dr. Bawumia’s message without first paying respects to the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II in Kyebi.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin in his address stressed that these areas often lack the necessary infrastructure and support to thrive.
The Okyenhene advocated for effective decentralization with enhanced local supervision in governance. He believed this approach would not only improve governance but also generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in rural communities.
By focusing on rural development, the Okyenhene argued, Ghana can achieve a more balanced and inclusive economic development, ensuring that all regions benefit from the country’s progress.
Additionally, the Okyenhene emphasised the necessity for Ghanaians to take ownership of their resources and contribute to national development. He called on citizens to be actively involved in the country’s progress, ensuring a collective effort towards sustainable growth.
Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin praised Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh for the courage with which he responded to President Akufo Addo’s call to implement the Free SHS policy.
Okyehene added that Dr. Opoku Prempeh and the NPP have good plans for the country and that even though chiefs are not allowed to do partisan politics, he will always support the candidate who is doing a good thing.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on his part recounted how the President discussed the Free SHS policy with him during the election petition, and that if the party had come to power in 2012, the policy would have started, despite the fact that many, including some NPP leaders, doubted its feasibility.
He was confident that his engagement with the people of Abuakwa South and Fanteakwa North will have a significant impact on the electoral fortunes of New Patriotic Party.
