Olympic Gold Medalist Asafa Powell has implored sports stakeholders in Ghana to deliberately embrace other sports. Powell, who is on a trip to Ghana with his wife, Alyshia Powell, spoke on GTV Sports+ with Karl Tufuoh.
According to the former 100-meter record holder, he disclosed he is in Ghana to share knowledge. and experience in the sport. For his part, ” I am in Ghana to share my experiences as a top athlete. I know what it takes to be the best. From a humble background, I Asafa Powell made it to the top. So it doesn’t matter where they are from”.
Powell used the opportunity to petition the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority to open up to other sports. According to him, “since I have been here, I haven’t seen tartan tracks. I believe Ghanaians shouldn’t limit themselves to football. You should widen your minds and ideas to other sports and you will see Ghana’s track and field athletes on the world stage.”
Asafa Powell is an Olympic gold medalist. A 3 time World Athletics gold medalist and a 2 time Diamond League champion.
