Black Stars coach Otto Addo met with deputy captain Thomas Partey on Wednesday hours before Villarreal faced Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League. The talks were positive, with Otto emphasizing the need for players to keep their shape for the World Cup.
Thomas Partey came on as a 46th minute substitute replacing Georges Mikautadze in Villarreal’s 3-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena. Addo has been monitoring Ghanaian players, recently visiting Spain to see Abdul Mumin, Kwasi Sibo, and others.
Other players he’s checked in on include Jordan Ayew, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, and Mohammed Kudus. These visits aim to promote team cohesion and solidarity ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.
Ghana’s Group L opponents are Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars World Cup campaign kicks off against Panama on June 17, followed by England (June 23) and Croatia (June 27). Ghana will play Austria and Germany in March as warm-up matches for the World Cup in June.
