Former Ghana head coach Otto Addo has revealed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) never explained why it dismissed him, months after ending his second spell with the Black Stars.Speaking to German football outlet 11Freunde, Addo disclosed that he was never given an official reason for his departure and chose not to seek one.Honestly, I still havent been given a reason [for my sacking] to this day and honestly, I didnt ask either, Addo said.There was, of course, a lot of back-and-forth between me, our federation president, and the board as well. It just felt like I could have been sacked after just one month.Addos remarks offer fresh insight into the strained relationship between the coaching staff and the GFA hierarchy during his second stint in charge.His reign came under intense scrutiny after Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, ending a 21-year run of consecutive appearances at the continental tournament.Despite leading the Black Stars to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Addo was dismissed on March 31, 2026, after four straight defeats in international friendlies, culminating in a 2-1 loss to Germany.His departure came just 72 days before the start of the World Cup. The GFA subsequently appointed veteran Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as his successor, while Addo joined FIFAs Technical Study Group for the tournament.
