Parliament’s Committee on Human Rights has held a two-day workshop to consider four African Union human rights instruments referred to the committee.
The workshop, chaired by Ernest Yaw Anim, brought together officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ministry of Justice and Office of the Attorney-General and Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice.
Discussions focused on the African Union Convention on Ending Violence against Women and Girls, the Protocol on the Rights of Citizens to Social Protection and Social Security, the Protocol on the Rights of Older Persons in Africa, and the Protocol on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa.
The workshop also included training on the Universal Periodic Review to strengthen the committee’s capacity to monitor and promote Ghana’s human rights obligations.
According to Parliament, the engagement reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to advancing human rights, promoting inclusive governance and aligning Ghana’s legislative framework with regional and international human rights standards.
