A coordinated operation between the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the seizure of illegal firearms in Nkwanta on Friday, August 1, 2025.
The intelligence-driven raid targeted individuals suspected of involvement in recent violent disturbances within the Nkwanta area.
Commencing at approximately 6:15 PM (1815 hours), the joint security team moved swiftly to a location opposite King’s Filling Station Down, an area reportedly known for suspected criminal activity. Security personnel immediately cordoned off the area to ensure resident safety and prevent escape attempts.
A thorough search of the premises led to the discovery and retrieval of two single-barrel guns and four AAA cartridges from the room of suspect Francis Donkor, aged 50. Donkor was promptly arrested, escorted to the Police Station, and remains in custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
The recovered firearms and ammunition have been secured as evidence to support the investigation and any potential prosecution. The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and public safety, issuing a strong caution against the unlawful possession and use of firearms.
This operation occurs against a backdrop of recurring tensions in Nkwanta, located in the Oti Region, where the Nkwanta South Municipality has experienced intermittent chieftaincy and land disputes frequently escalating into violent clashes, property destruction, and resident displacement.
