The Ghana Police Service has today, 23rd November 2024, arrested suspect Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, for offences including publication of false news contrary to section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The suspect is currently in Police custody, and his case will be presented to the court so that he can be tried.
Ohenaba Nana Asiedu, the Morning Show host of Kumasi-based Wontumi Radio and Television in the Ashanti Region, was invited by the Police to publish false news.
The Police invitation is hinged on a video circulating on social media, in which the suspect is sighted at the studios of Wontumi FM in Kumasi, urging the public to vote for the presidential candidates on separate dates during the upcoming general elections in December 2024, a statement which is false and likely to disturb the public peace.
