The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with a gold robbery incident that occurred near Jukwa, close to Afransie, on Monday, 15 July 2025.

In a statement published on the Ghana Police Service’s official Facebook page, authorities said the arrests followed a swift response to a robbery targeting a Toyota Hilux pickup, registration number GT 7426-23. The vehicle was transporting gold concentrate from a mining site to Wassa Akropong when it was ambushed just outside Jukwa.

The pickup was carrying three people at the time: the driver, identified as Kofi Gyamfi; a security guard named Bashiru; and another passenger whose identity has not been disclosed. The robbers fled the scene with the gold.

One of the suspects, Foster Peprah, a small-scale miner, was arrested at the scene. Police investigations revealed he had carried out the attack with an accomplice known only as Isaac, who is currently on the run.

During interrogation, Peprah allegedly admitted that the robbery had been set up by the driver, Kofi Gyamfi, who had informed them about the gold shipment and invited them to intercept the vehicle.

Gyamfi was subsequently arrested. Further questioning led to the arrest of the security guard, Bashiru, whom Gyamfi identified as the operation’s mastermind. Bashiru was apprehended later at his hideout in Wassa Gyedua.

The police say efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspect and recover the stolen gold.
