The Progressive People Party’s parliamentary candidate for Ashaiman Mantey Emmanuel Felix has urged Ghanaian voters to elect candidates from other political parties apart from the NDC and NPP to parliament in order to bring some stability and balance in the legislature.
According to him, having MPs from other political parties in the parliament would create a third caucus that would offer the needed balance for the legislature.
“I urge every Ghanaian wherever you are to vote for the PPP parliamentary candidates and those from other parties to get a third caucus in Parliament even if at least we are seven.
If only we had a third caucus, some of these things would not happen” he mentioned as one of the solutions to the ongoing confusion in parliament over which group constitutes the majority.
He opined that the absence of a third caucus in Ghana’s parliament is one of the things militating against the country’s budding democracy.
The PPP parliamentary candidate for Ashaiman also stated that, the lack of proper Separation of Powers in Ghana’s democratic practice is also fueling the confusion in the governance system.
“Clearly we are not seeing the Separation of Powers clear in our forward match in terms of consolidating our democracy. Let the Executive know their limits, let the Judiciary know their limits and also let the Legislature know their limits” he stated.
In a 5-2 decision led by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, the apex Court on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 ruled that Speaker Bagbin’s interpretation of Article 97(1)(g) of the Ghanaian Constitution, which he used to justify his declaration of four parliamentary seats vacant, that has led to confusion over majority status between NPP and NDC groups in parliament, was incorrect.
However, PPP parliamentary candidate for Ashaiman is of the view that the Judiciary could have simply thrown the case brought to them by Alexander Afenyo-Markings out and asked it to be dealt with by parliament because it is purely a parliamentary matter.
Mr. Mantey who is also the Executive Director of the Security and Conflict Management Bureau – Africa is entreating the NPP and NDC groups in parliament to sit down and find an amicable solution through negotiations and consensus Knowing very well that the legislature is an independent institution.
“If Ghanaians in this election would give us the other parties seats in the next parliament these would not happen. So, I am calling on the people of Ashaiman to vote for me Mantey Emmanuel Felix to be their next MP to bring the needed development and positive impact in the Constituency and parliament” Felix Mantey who was a VVIP guest on the mobile edition of the 3FM Sunrise Morning Show dubbed, ‘Ride with Your Constituents’ from Ashaiman to Tema emphasized.
