Promoting Disability Inclusion: Africa Disability Institute Unveils New Project Ahead of 2024 Elections

The Africa Disability Institute (ADI) has performed a groundbreaking project to promote disability inclusion in the upcoming 2024 elections in four districts of the Oti Region.

The project, supported by STAR Ghana Foundation with funding from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), aims to ensure equal participation and representation of persons with disabilities in the electoral process.

A communique copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) by Ms Mispa Helu, the Senior Project Officer said, the launch of Promoting Disability Inclusion in Elections will focus on voter education and accessibility, capacity building for persons with disabilities, advocacy for inclusive policies and collaboration with electoral stakeholders.

The four beneficiary Districts and Municipalities include Krachi West, Krachi Nchumuru, Nkwanta North and Nkwanta South Municipality.

The programme objective is to empower persons with disability to exercise their civic rights, participate in democratic processes and advocate for inclusive policies.

STAR Ghana Foundation’s support demonstrates its commitment to promoting inclusive governance, and human rights in Ghana through its sustained support for initiatives championing citizen participation and social justice.

The foundation’s dedication to empowering marginalized communities, including PWDs, women and youth has been evident in its funding and technical assistance to local organizations.

The project’s success would contribute to a more inclusive and participatory democracy in Ghana.

Stakeholders expecting to grace the occasion include, Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC), Municipal and District Assemblies, Regional, Municipal, District Electoral Commission (EC), National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), Regional Department of Social Welfare, Ghana Federation of Disability Organisation (GFD) and Media practitioners.
