Antoine Semenyo has opened up after his most-prolific campaign in the English Premier League which led to him breaking a long-standing Tony Yeboah record. Before his 17-goal haul last term, Yeboah had held the record for the most goals by a Ghanaian in a single season in the Premier League after scoring 12 times in the 94/95 and 95/96 campaigns.
Tony Yeboah is a player I always looked up to. Asamoah Gyan too, (former Ivory Coast star) Didier Drogba, the names are endless, Semenyo told CNN Sports.
The 26-year-old now hopes his success in the top division of English football will be emulated by the young ones, like he did while watching Yeboah, Asamoah Gyan and Didier Drogba, his idols.
When they were playing in the Premier League, scoring every week, you wanted to the same thing as a young kid. To think Im doing it now, Im grateful to God. Its a dream of mine to have kids looking up to me, following in my footsteps. It gives me more motivation to keep going,” he added.
The England-born forward is already dominating the headlines ahead of the new campaign with his dazzling performances under new City manager, Enzo Maresca.
Hes been great so far, Semenyo said of his new coach. Hes joined with us very, very quickly, tactically. You can see its very similar with our last manager. Its going to take some time to get used to, but everyones buying into it.
You can see hes driven and wants to win everything, like how we do as a team. Hes going to implement what he needs to, and weve still got experienced players from the seasons before. That will help lead us to hopefully victory in all the trophies this year.
