Nations FC captain Razak Simpson has refused to give up on his dream of playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that the final Black Stars squad is yet to be confirmed.
The stalwart defender made the comments after leading Nations FC to victory in the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup final, where the club secured a historic triumph and qualification to next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Despite missing Ghana’s training camp in Cardiff and the friendly against Wales, Simpson remains hopeful of forcing his way into head coach Carlos Queiroz’s final World Cup squad.
“Are you sure I’m not going to the World Cup? The final selection hasn’t been made yet. I’m just hoping to be part of it. I’m still fit,” Simpson told Citi Sports.
The Nations FC skipper has been in and around the Black Stars setup in recent years and continues to be regarded as one of the most consistent defenders in the Ghana Premier League.
Simpson recently featured for Ghana in the international friendly against Mexico, where he was handed another opportunity to impress the technical team ahead of the World Cup.
With Queiroz expected to name his final 26-man squad soon, Simpson is hoping his recent performances for both club and country will be enough to earn him a place on the plane to North America.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with Ghana set to face Panama, England and Croatia in Group L as they seek to progress beyond the group stage.
