I have observed how in the space of 4 months a single article written by Evans Aziamor-Mensah, a journalist with the fourth estate and Media Foundation for West Africa, has been circulated on at least three different dates.
The article which was first published on 17 May 2023 has been freshy circulated today 29 September 2023 on the fourth estate’s Facebook page with the caption “Bawumia’s brazen ambition to contest for President”.
Even though I resisted the temptation to respond to the article when it was first published for the simple reason that it was a well calculated attack on the personality of Dr. Bawumia rather than a constructive criticism, I wish to spend some few lines to expose how Evans’ behaviour characterizes that of a hater doing the bidding of someone.
This is the only conclusion that every fair mind will reach looking at the heading, especially his declaration that Bawumia “must never” become president as though he was giving an order to the Maker of Kings.
The first question I wish to ask Evans and his fourth estate group is, have they run out of content to such an extent that they will have to circulate one article for about 3 times within 4 months? Or is it the case that the purpose for which the article was first published has not been achieved so the sponsors want a third bite? The latter is the most plausible reason because Dr. Bawumia’s popularity keeps on soaring within the NPP and among the Ghanaian electorate.
Indeed, in the said article Evans advocated, as though he was a member of the NPP, that delegates of the party should not vote for Dr. Bawumia. To his dismay, delegates at the special delegates congress voted overwhelmingly for Dr. Bawumia and delegates at the Nov 4 elections are equally poised to give him victory to break the 8 for the NPP.
Furthermore, his description of Dr. Bawumia as a religious nomad is an insult to the sensibilities of Dr. Bawumia’s faith and that of the several Christian leaders and their followers who have always warmly welcomed him to their churches. Dr. Bawumia has openly indicated that his ability to coexist peacefully with his siblings some of whom are Christians is a model that shows that he can equally coexist with people of different religious beliefs. His goal is to maintain a Ghana devoid of religious disturbances especially at a time when our country is threatened with all sorts of extremist thoughts like what is exhibited by Evans.
Finally, Evans is free to assess the government in a manner that suits his biases. However, describing Dr. Bawumia’s vision to lead Ghana after eight years in government as vice president to be “brazen” is illogical. It is obvious he has forgotten the successes of the government whilst relying on some challenges faced in recent times to make his conclusions. However, why then have we not seen his single article, not to talk of multiply circulating it, about Mr. John Mahama’s attempt to return to power after serving as vice president and president but was rejected by Ghanaians in 2016 and 2020? Where is his “anti-corruption” or “patriotic” journalistic pen? Or to him Mr. Mahama’s government was flawless?
I will conclude by requesting Evans and his fourth estate to write new content in a constructive manner and avoid recirculating their shameful article which obviously has failed to achieve the purpose for which it was written.
Thank you.
